Hey guys. We trust you had a fantastic summer? Good… No doubt you’re left skint now and awaiting that big fat student loan? Well, have no fear because we are on a mission to save you as much money as possible this coming 2008-2009 academic year. So, we are upping our game. Last year it was tricky finding the right sort of discounts that suited everyone, a case of quality over quantity. But this time round, we are going for quantity, as many discounts as possible. Whilst we will endeavour to find as many ‘offline’ discounts as possible, there are also loads and loads of fantastic discounts available online - and lets face it, the majority of us shop online because its always cheaper, and much, much easier 
We will also continue to push out ‘local’ offers, and whilst our local efforts have only revolved around Nottingham, we hope to be informed about, and discover local student offers from different cities. So basically, we are going to save you a fortune this year! or die trying. Enjoy freshers week!

Welcome Back!
“Summer Time”
So, the end of what no doubt was a great year at University, and was definately a great first year here at Stuwd HQ. We sent out some fantastic discounts, had many thousands of subscribers, and to this date we have sent out over 100,000 text messages to our awesome subscribers! Which is a nice milestone
Over the summer period we are going to work very very hard to get lots of great discounts lined up for the start of term. So if you haven’t subscribed yet, then now is the time do so.
We will also continue to push the local discounts, so if you feel like working with Stuwd to find and distribute discounts on a local level to students at your university, then please get in touch (http://www.stuwd.com/contact.php)

The predecessor to Stuwd was originally founded in Nottingham, and had varying degrees of success in informing students about discounts around the city.
Stuwd was the natural evolution of this, to help inform students nationwide about discounts that are available nationally. However, that original ideology of informing students about local discounts remains here at Stuwd, and so the next phase of our plan is to start sending out these local discounts – starting with Nottingham.
We are aiming to send out a few texts to Nottingham based students by the end of the academic year, and if all goes well we will look to expand the local Stuwd service into other cities.

Stuwd Forum
Hey guys. We have just launched a new forum for Stuwd - a place to share and discuss various deals, discounts, savings, offers both offline and online, national and local, student and non-student.
It’s currently in beta, and a we will be testing the response over the next month or so, if it’s popular and well used then we shall keep it up and improve it.

Well, a little bit late, but Happy 2008 anyway!
Just a quick update to let you all know that we are working hard, and are trying to speak to as many big companies as possible to get them to use Stuwd to offer a Student Discount through.
We have had many fantastic suggestions, and we hope to use some of these and send out some amazing offers very very soon. So please bare with us. Cheers.
The NUS
We recently received an email from someone who asked whether or not some shops only accepted NUS cards when giving discounts, and this was our response;
“Hello, thanks for the email. The thing is, the NUS actively discourage HMV, Topshop and other affiliated partners from offering discounts to students without valid NUS cards. They are discriminating against Universities and students who choose not to be part of the NUS (National Union of Students) - They lead people to believe they are not a student unless they are a part of the NUS, which is wrong, and thus many student unions have stood up to this monopolistic practice.
At Stuwd, we believe people who are in full time education are students, whether they are part of the NUS or not, and thus we try to emphasise that if students are refused a discount because they don’t have an NUS card, or an NUS extra card (£10!!?) that they should stand up for themselves and argue their case and try to blag their discount. ”
Now, don’t get us wrong, the NUS is great, and we are glad is exists. But we don’t agree with their practices on trying to prevent non-NUS students from receiving discounts from the major highstreet stores.
Stuwd is a new service, and we are still learning, but as we grow we hope to have more leverage with the major companies and we hope to be able to offer some absolutely amazing never-seen-before student discounts in the near future. So stay tuned, tell your friends, and have some faith

It would seem that Stuwd has hit a sweet spot and we have been inundated with sign ups! It really is great to know that you guys like Stuwd, and we are very happy at the response thus far.
As some of you might know, we have begun sending messages out, we just hope they are informative, and are helping you to save some money, but we need suggestions! So please let us know what you think of the discounts, and tell us off any good ones you know. We hope to start sending specific messages for your Uni / Location soon, but in the mean time most messages will remain national based. Thanks people!
Stuwd is coming..
Hello people! Just a quick blog post to keep you updated on happenings here at Stuwd HQ. Well, in the next couple of weeks we will start sending out text messages with some fantastic student discounts contained within. To begin with, we will send a message a week, and if everything goes according to plan, then we will move on to sending 2 a week. So if you have any suggestions for discounts then please do not hesitate to let us know…
Working Hard
Hey guys, how’s it going..? You all ready to go back to Uni? Good good. Here at Stuwd we have been very busy trying to gain as many subscribers as possible, and get as many great student discounts lined up as possible, and it’s going very well so far.
We are in talks with a quite a few different companies and they are very interested in offering some fantastic discounts through the Stuwd service, however Stuwd needs more subscribers before said messages can be sent. So please bare with us whilst we gain more subscribers, and you can even help us out by telling your friends and joining our facebook group!
One last thing, if you have any suggestions for the Stuwd service, then please share them with us we love hearing feedback and we want to make you guys as happy as possible.

One last thing to note is that we will begin sending Student Discount messages out in early October, so please be patient, and remember that the more people signed up to Stuwd, the better the discounts we can negotiate! It’s kind of like a Communist / Socialist / Union type thing really, people power! Or should that be Student power?
