Over the summer period we are going to work very very hard to get lots of great discounts lined up for the start of term. So if you haven’t subscribed yet, then now is the time do so.

Stuwd was the natural evolution of this, to help inform students nationwide about discounts that are available nationally. However, that original ideology of informing students about local discounts remains here at Stuwd, and so the next phase of our plan is to start sending out these local discounts – starting with Nottingham.

We are aiming to send out a few texts to Nottingham based students by the end of the academic year, and if all goes well we will look to expand the local Stuwd service into other cities.

Just a quick update to let you all know that we are working hard, and are trying to speak to as many big companies as possible to get them to use Stuwd to offer a Student Discount through.

We have had many fantastic suggestions, and we hope to use some of these and send out some amazing offers very very soon. So please bare with us. Cheers.

“Hello, thanks for the email. The thing is, the NUS actively discourage HMV, Topshop and other affiliated partners from offering discounts to students without valid NUS cards. They are discriminating against Universities and students who choose not to be part of the NUS (National Union of Students) - They lead people to believe they are not a student unless they are a part of the NUS, which is wrong, and thus many student unions have stood up to this monopolistic practice.

At Stuwd, we believe people who are in full time education are students, whether they are part of the NUS or not, and thus we try to emphasise that if students are refused a discount because they don’t have an NUS card, or an NUS extra card (£10!!?) that they should stand up for themselves and argue their case and try to blag their discount. ”

Now, don’t get us wrong, the NUS is great, and we are glad is exists. But we don’t agree with their practices on trying to prevent non-NUS students from receiving discounts from the major highstreet stores.

Stuwd is a new service, and we are still learning, but as we grow we hope to have more leverage with the major companies and we hope to be able to offer some absolutely amazing never-seen-before student discounts in the near future. So stay tuned, tell your friends, and have some faith

We also received an email recently asking us if we are here to inform about previous discounts, or to campaign for new, better discounts. Our answer to that is 50/50 - there are many discounts around that are not so well known, and we wish to inform everyone about these discounts. However, there are many companies around that don’t offer a student discounts - and we wish to convince them that to change this.

At the moment, Stuwd is not a big enough service for us to achieve this. However as we grow, and as students start to talk about Stuwd, use the discounts, and appreciate us, we will be in a much stronger position to create, negotiate, and inform you guys about new, bigger, better, and amazing student discounts. So please continue to support us, tell your friends, and use any student discounts we inform you about. But most importantly - tell us what you think, give us suggestions, and educate us as to how we can serve you better!
